About us
Euro Rescue is a non-profit non-governmental organisation
Our goal is to remove as many obsolete vehicles as possible from the road in all European Union countries, thereby promoting the switch to more modern and environmentally friendly vehicles.
Eco-friendly vehicles, also known as green or clean vehicles, are automobiles designed to have less environmental impact than traditional gasoline or diesel cars, primarily by reducing CO2 emissions or using alternative energy sources. This category includes Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles (HFCVs). These vehicles are often more energy-efficient, produce fewer harmful emissions, and can offer lower running and maintenance costs, although their overall sustainability depends on factors like the source of electricity for charging.
Types of Eco-Friendly Vehicles
- Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs): These vehicles run entirely on electricity stored in a battery and have no tailpipe emissions, though their environmental impact can vary depending on how the electricity is generated.
- Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs): PHEVs combine a gasoline engine with an electric motor and battery, allowing them to run on electricity for short distances before switching to gasoline.
- Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs): These vehicles also use both a gasoline engine and an electric motor, but the electric battery is not externally charged; instead, it relies on the engine and regenerative braking to charge.
- Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles (HFCVs): These cars use hydrogen to generate electricity, emitting only water vapor as a byproduct.
Benefits of Eco-Friendly Vehicles
- Lower Emissions: A significant reduction in or elimination of harmful tailpipe emissions, contributing to cleaner air.
- Reduced Fossil Fuel Dependency: Less reliance on gasoline and diesel, which are fossil fuels.
- Lower Running Costs: Reduced fuel expenses and lower maintenance costs compared to traditional ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles.
- Quieter Operation: Many electric and hybrid vehicles offer a quieter driving experience.
Considerations for Eco-Friendly Vehicles
- Electricity Source: For BEVs and PHEVs, the environmental benefit is maximized when the electricity used for charging comes from renewable sources like solar or wind.
- Battery Production: The mining of materials like lithium for EV batteries has an environmental footprint due to the heavy machinery and fossil fuels involved.
- Charging Infrastructure: The availability of convenient charging points is a factor for BEVs and PHEVs, though home charging is often a viable solution.
